Negative Pressure Therapy

Advanced treatment to promote the healing of acute and chronic wounds through controlled subatmospheric pressure.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is an advanced treatment to promote the healing of acute and chronic wounds through the controlled application of subatmospheric pressure within a closed system. It uses a special sponge or gauze placed on the wound, an airtight dressing and a vacuum pump that draws the exudate into a reservoir.

This technique creates a protected moist environment, reduces the risk of infection and improves exudate control, making it an effective tool for complex wounds, chronic ulcers, open surgical wounds and situations where tissue repair needs to be accelerated.

How does it work?

Removal of exudate and oedema

Reduces the bacterial load and prevents maceration of the surrounding tissue.

Improved blood perfusion

Increases the supply of oxygen and nutrients essential for tissue repair.

Mechanical microdeformation

Suction stimulates the formation of granulation tissue and angiogenesis.

Edge approximation

Negative pressure brings the wound edges closer together, helping it close progressively.

Indications for the therapy

NPWT is especially indicated for complex wounds, chronic ulcers that are difficult to heal, open surgical wounds, traumatic wounds and situations where managing heavy exudate is a challenge. It is an option that provides greater patient comfort by reducing the frequency of dressing changes.
